Frequently asked questions

What is commercial auto insurance?

Commercial auto insurance covers vehicles used for business — trucks, vans, cars and specialty vehicles owned by a company or used to haul goods, tools or people for pay. It provides higher liability limits than personal auto and covers uses that personal policies exclude.

How much does commercial auto insurance cost?

A single business pickup or van often runs about $1,500–$4,500 a year. For-hire trucking costs much more: new box-truck and hotshot authorities commonly see $8,000–$16,000 per truck, and semis $10,000–$25,000+. Use our cost estimator for a range tailored to your operation.

How much insurance do I need for my MC authority?

FMCSA requires $750,000 in liability for for-hire general freight in trucks of 10,001 lbs or more ($300,000 under 10,001 lbs), and $1–5 million for oil and hazmat. Most brokers require $1,000,000 plus $100,000 cargo.

Are you an insurance company?

No. CommercialAutoInsurance.net is an independent information site. When you request quotes, we connect you with a licensed insurance agency that writes commercial auto, and that agency quotes and services your policy.
